What the official docs say
Pump.fun’s guide at pump.fun/docs/create-coin says anyone can launch a coin in under a minute, with no liquidity to seed, no presale and no team allocation, and that coins are immediately tradable on a bonding curve. The fee page lists creation at 0 SOL / 0 USDC. Our walkthrough follows that guide. Interfaces change, so compare with the live screens.
Step-by-step
Step 1: Connect a wallet
Open pump.fun and connect a Solana wallet, such as Phantom, Solflare or Backpack, or sign in with email via Privy so an embedded wallet is created. Set up the wallet safely first: Solana wallet setup guide.
Step 2: Open the Create page
Click Create in the app. Per the docs, you fill in these fields:
- Name: the full name of the coin.
- Symbol or ticker: short and in capitals, typically 3–6 characters according to the docs.
- Description: a short blurb that shows on the coin page and in social previews.
- Image: square; the docs suggest 512×512 PNG or JPG. The create page we viewed recommended a minimum of 1000×1000 pixels, so follow what the live form says.
- Socials (optional): links to X, Telegram or a website.
The create page we viewed also showed optional toggles such as Mayhem mode, cash back (creator rewards go to traders) and pairing with USDC. Read each description before turning anything on. See Mayhem Mode explained.
Step 3: Check everything, because it is permanent
The docs say name, symbol and image are immutable, and the create page says coin data such as social links and banners can only be added at creation. Read your text twice, check spelling and make sure you have the right to use any image or brand. Pump.fun’s guide also tells creators to read the Terms and Conditions and Trademark Guidelines, and says coins that violate either may be removed.
Step 4: Sign the launch transaction
Approve the transaction in your wallet. The docs say there is no fee to create a coin and the coin is instantly live on the bonding curve. Read the wallet pop-up; if it asks for more than you expect, reject it.
Step 5: Trading begins on the curve
The first trade can happen immediately and price follows the curve: every buy moves it up and every sell moves it down. When the coin reaches the graduation threshold, liquidity migrates to PumpSwap automatically. Learn how in the bonding curve guide and graduation explained.
What does it cost?
- Platform creation fee: 0 SOL / 0 USDC per the fee page.
- Network fees: paid in SOL for the transaction itself.
- Any initial purchase: optional, and its size is your choice. A pump.fun help article we found says a coin created without a first buy may appear as “offchain” until a purchase is made, and gave example network amounts; those figures are dated from 2025, so check current numbers in the app.
- Trading fees: 1.25% total on the bonding curve, part of which goes to the creator. The fee page says the creator receives a portion of every trade’s fees.
- Graduation fee: 0.015 SOL when a coin graduates.

Responsibilities and risks for creators
Don’t mislead people
Making promises about future price, returns or “guaranteed” outcomes can be illegal in many places and will hurt buyers. Be clear about what the coin is, and disclose your own holdings.
Rules and eligibility
You must follow pump.fun’s terms and the law where you live. Creators who dump on followers will, rightly, be called out; see how buyers evaluate this in rug pull warning signs.
Taxes
Creator fees, token sales and swaps may all be taxable. Ask an accountant who understands crypto in your country; our tax questions guide lists what to ask.
Expect most coins to fail
With so many coins launched, getting attention is the hard part. Third-party sources suggest that only a small share of launches ever graduate, though we cannot give a verified figure.
Checklist before you press create
- Do you understand that name, ticker and image can’t be changed?
- Do you own or have permission to use every image and word?
- Have you read pump.fun’s terms and trademark guidelines?
- Is your wallet set up safely and funded with only what you can afford to lose?
- Have you decided what you will and won’t promise publicly (nothing about profit)?
